The only autoreverse decks that I know of that don't have a belt, are the Akai GX-R88 and GX-R99, where each capstan has a Direct Drive motor. I recorded a lot of vinyl using a Nakamichi 680ZX, DBX and Maxell Metaxial (metal) C90 tape, and they still sound a good as the day I recorded them. I'm converting them because I still have the vinyl, but I'm not sure if it sounds the same.
