This means a growth rate of 3.4% and an increase in the percentage of urban population from 37% to 40.4% between 1995 and 2015. Of this urban population, more than half live in slums. WebbSlums form and grow in different parts of the world for many different reasons. Causes include rapid rural-to-urban migration, economic stagnation and depression, high unemployment, poverty, informal economy, forced or manipulated ghettoization, poor planning, politics, natural disasters, and social conflicts.
